'Hey.. What's this? Aww.. Bloody hell!' Down the corridor, Beatrice could heard a student groaning. She cautiously approached the corner, peaking around it to find a student covered in a green slime. He kept moving his legs, and arms, but the slime wouldn't come off him easily. It gathered in goopy pools around his body. In the distance, she could hear laughing. And it grew louder and louder, until soon she could see the owners of the laughs. The self-proclaimed Marauders of Hogwarts.
A slight irritation grew in the back of her head. Not only did she disapprove of the Marauders' actions, she would have to walk past them. And she and Remus had planned to meet at the library today. How would he ever escape his friends' grasp with them pulling him along to another prank? And how could she get passed them without them pulling some nonsense out on her? Bea could now see the angered student discovering the culprits, which only made them laugh harder. She figured it was now or never to make a run past them.
Keeping her head low, and her pace fast, Beatrice half-ran past the Marauders and their latest victim. She glanced momentarily at Remus, trying to see if he was still going to meet her at the library to study, but kept on moving. It was best this way, keeping their friendship a secret for the most part. The Marauders picked on anyone and everyone, and if they ever picked on her, she knew Remus would go along with it. Not because he wanted to (she hoped), but because his friends would make him.
If the gang had said anything, she hadn't heard them, as she was already running into the library. The smell of the library filled her nostrils, and she grinned. It was a familiar smell, a lovely smell. One she clung to, and adored. Taking a seat in a somewhat secluded, though still visible spot, Beatrice began staring at the bookshelves. Within moments, she stood back up, and began pulling books off the shelves, seemingly at random. By the time she was done, she had, at the most, a dozen books.
Getting comfortable in her seat, Beazus kept a close eye on the door, waiting for Remus to appear, if he should. It seemed like eternity, though at most was probably only fifteen minutes, when he finally walked into the doors. She looked up, fully from her book, and waved him over. "Slime? Really?" were the first words out of her mouth, before he could even sit down.

He would admit that sliming the 3rd year was a bit immature and definitely not as clever as any of their more elaborate pranks but he couldn’t deny Prongs and Padfoot their fun, well he could since he was a Prefect but it was just a little slime, it wasn’t going to hurt anyone, yeah? Besides, it was better that it was just sliming someone that kept their attention rather than James and Sirius going out of their way to get into even bigger trouble…such as going out and purposely finding and harassing some Slytherin. That could open up a whole can of worms and Remus honestly didn’t feel like getting caught up in the middle of another hexing war between his best mates and some of the particularly nasty Slytherins.
Movement caught the corner of his eye and he turned just in time to see his friend, Beatrice, dart past them and head towards the library. Oh right, that’s where he had been headed before his fellow Marauders had found him and pulled him into their prank on the unfortunate 3rd year. As much as he loved his best mates, he had already promised Bea that he’d study and work on assignments with her in the library today. Letting a light sigh pass over his lips, the sandy blond haired Gryffindor turned to his best mates, “You both have horrid timing, you know. I’ve got work to do so I’ll see you later tonight, yeah?
” He moved past them and started for the library entrance, rolling his eyes at James and Sirius’ disappointed calls, they clearly wanted to spend more time with ‘ Moony dearest’, as Sirius had put it. They’d get over it, Remus reasoned, they should be used to him slipping off to the library to do his assignments amongst the smell of parchment and old [and new!] books. It didn’t take him very long to find her, already tucked away in a semi-secluded part of the library, surrounded by a pile of books that were positioned in an almost comical way. His lips quirked into an apologetic smile as he dropped his bag next to the table and took the seat across from her. “ Slime? Really?” “ So you saw that, huh?” Remus ran a hand through his hair, his cheeks tingeing a light shade of pink, busted! It wasn’t that he was embarrassed, per se, it was more of the fact that he’d been caught pulling such an immature prank [though, in his defense, he actually didn’t do any of the sliming. That was all Sirius and James.] on an innocent student who hadn’t done anything wrong in particular, he’d just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. “ Just be glad that it was only slime and nothing more…elaborate and dangerous.” Remus added. Beatrice tried not to roll her eyes as her Gryffindor friend sat down. She looked at him firmly, though the blush was melting her hard stare. It was hard to be stern with someone when they were obviously not proud of their acts. "Of course I saw it. I heard the poor kid groaning a mile away." The sternness in her voice only lasted the first few words. By now she was fighting back a smile. "He's going to have slime coming out his ears for weeks." She stared down at her book, suppressing a smile, though still trying to sound authoritative. It was failing miserably. The mental image of the boy pulling goo out of various areas weeks later was rather amusing.
Somewhere, deep down inside, Bea felt like she was responsible for reminding Remus that his actions may one day cost him. She wasn't exactly sure why, just that any time she saw him with his friends, pranking an unsuspecting student, she felt obligated to tell him off. It usually failed, because, like it or not, she did find some of the Marauders' pranks funny. Maybe it was because she thought that Remus was better than them. He had his head in the right direction when it came to academics. He just almost always lost his studious self when he was with his mates. But she couldn't control who he hung out with. That was his decision.
"I suppose that's true. I don't know how you guys can slip under the radar so much.." She thought a moment, then smirked again. "It's probably because you're a prefect. The professors would never question your judgment." Beazus figured that had to be the case, since what the Marauders did could not go unheard by the staff forever. She supposed that because her friend had prefect abilities, he was safe, for the most part, from professors' evil glares.
Glancing over at the books she had all but tossed onto the table, Bea remembered what they were sitting here for. "I know most of these books look like they have nothing to do with doxies. But I assure you, there is random bits of information in each of these books concerning them." Beatrice had a nag for getting the most information possible. She would, and will, carry multiple book around, just because each one mentions the subject she's currently researching, even if only a page. She began pulling each book individually, waving her hand for the pages to turn to the ones that had "doxy" printed on them.

His expression took on a more sheepish appearance, he shifted in his seat under her stern gaze before leaning forward, placing his elbows on the table in front of him and resting his chin in the palm of his hand. Remus noticed her resolve break, her lips twitching despite the want to stay irritated at the immaturity displayed by him and his friends. Waiting a few more moments, she cracked, as he had expected her to—there was no denying the amusement that came from the thought of that poor bloke pulling slime out of his ears [and other places] for weeks, it was just too funny! Pretty soon Remus found himself grinning as well, “ Well, it’s a life experience that I’m sure he’ll look back on, years from now, and laugh about. He should be honored that Gryffindor’s finest chose him as their test subject, yeah?
” He, of course, didn’t mean a single word that he had said, his tone had been light and playful and his eyes crinkled at the corners from the want to laugh. "I suppose that's true. I don't know how you guys can slip under the radar so much.."Well, that certainly wasn’t a mystery! Well, to her and the rest of the school it was, the real reason, that is—it was due to the Marauders Map that they could get away with as much as they did. Though that was a secret, so they would continue to let people go on believing that the reason why they got away with most of their hijinx was because Remus was a Prefect and therefore had pull with the authority figures of the castle. The Gryffindor chuckled, “ That, my inquisitive friend, is a secret.” She made it sound as if he was completely immune to the punishments that the professors often dealt out to his best mates, it was true that he generally didn’t get tossed into detention with his fellow Marauders, but that didn’t exactly mean that he hadn’t had his fair share of detentions—those definitely weren’t his proudest moments and he would, by no means, brag about his time in detention, unlike James and Sirius. His attention was then captured by the enormous pile of books that she had collected before he had even arrived, it amazed him how quick she had gathered them all in the short time that she had been in the library before him—but he knew not to question her and her methods by now. “ Ah, so there is a method to the madness then.” Remus leaned forward, picking out a random book from the pile and pulling it towards him, “ Mm, I know there’s a decent amount of books here but do you think we’ll be able to get enough written with only ‘random bits of information’ from each?” [/blockquote]

By now there was a large grin on her face, as she looked up at her Gryffindor friend. He, too, was grinning as he spoke about 'Gryffindor's finest'. Beatrice rolled her eyes, the smile still planted on her face. "Well, of course he should feel honored," she said, playing along. "I mean, who wouldn't want to be randomly attacked by large amounts of slime? Especially by Remus Lupin and his companions. I'd probably die from joy!" Her voice was laced with sarcasm as she spoke. She has no intentions whatsoever to be 'experimented' on by the Marauders. Sure, their trick was mostly harmless, but they had been known to do far worse, mostly to their rivals.
Subconsciously tucking loose strands of her back into the normal bun in the back of her head, Beazus half expected Remus to give an answer as to how they were able to get away with so much. But, disappointingly, he kept it a secret. Shaking her head, she smiled again. "You know, one of these days someone is going to figure it out. It may be a week from now, or maybe years from now, but someone will catch on," she said, trying to trip him up a bit. She was genuinely curious as to how they got by so often, and figured maybe she could scare him a bit into telling her. Leaning back in her chair, she crossed her arms and shrugged. "Who knows? It could happen."
As the pages in her books began flipping to the ones she needed, she looked up at Remus, somewhat surprised. "Well, of course we will," she said, tilting her head. Beatrice didn't just go about carrying large quantities of books just for the fun of it. She was a thorough researcher, getting as much information as possible on the topics she needed. Never once in her years of schooling did she have a paper lacking in information. "I don't fool around when it comes to researching," she laughed. "There'll be enough information, trust me. The books in this pile-" she pointed to the one he had taken a book from, "have the most information in them. The rest have information not mentioned in these ones." There was a bit of pride in her voice as she spoke. "You see, not many other people will what's in these books in their papers. But we will." Bea knew that most people would just grab the books that indicated specifically the topic of research for the paper. But because of her obsessive nature with books, she went to great lengths and found all the information she could on said topics. Some found it crazy, the way she worked. But she didn't mind. Her grades her much better than theirs, and it was because of her methods that they were.

This was one of the reasons why he loved hanging out with Bea so much, she was just as intelligent as he was but also knew how to have a good laugh every once in a while. It was nice since it was usually that the person was either intelligent with no sense of humor, or was hilarious and fun to be around but not all that bright—finding someone who was both was nice, she had the right amount of each quality and that’s what made her fun to be around.
“It’s what we do; providing excellent pranks since 1971.
” He continued with a light chuckle, “ Though, we’d prefer that our ‘victims’ don’t die—that would look terribly bad for us, so maybe you could become joyfully comatose instead?” His voice remained lighthearted, teasing her with his suggestion. A lot of people probably didn’t know this side of Remus—they either thought of him as a hooligan due to the company that he kept, or they probably thought of him as that studious Gryffindor boy who happened to hang out with James and Sirius but never really seemed to get into any trouble. However, Remus was a Marauder through and through, he was just a little smarter with his deviousness than the others were… His eyes lit up and he leaned forward conspiratorially, “ Do I detect a hint of jealousy?” Maybe she wanted to know the Marauders tricks and secrets so that she too could mischievously strutting around the castle undetected as well. A small, amused smile quirked the corners of his lips upwards at the thought of Bea performing a prank, or really, doing anything ‘bad’ in general. Remus found himself grinning appreciatively, “ You’re absolutely brilliant, you know that?” He took his studies very seriously and he knew for a fact that so did Beatrice. They were going to have the best written essays, there was no doubt about that. He opened his book and started flipping the pages until he found the chapter he was looking for, pulling out a map of parchment and his quill and ink bottle, ready to start researching and writing.
