"Ah, Zabini, so good to see you."
Severus' tone was curt and his words clipped, just as they always were. He sat down by the girl as dinner began in the Great Hall, taking a moment to consider how long it had been since he'd had a proper meal--twenty four hours--before spooning mashed potatoes onto his plate. He stole a glance across the hall, much like he did before he and Lily's falling out. She was there, offering no indication--not yet anyway--of any thought to what he'd done that morning. Well, he supposed he couldn't be too impatient: how could he expect her to have come to any conclusions so quickly?
Still, he couldn't help but feel a sense of eagerness, a longing to know if she'd have him in a deeper manner than just as a friend. Of course, knowing how these things tended to work for people like him, he'd be lucky if she was still talking to him by the end of next week. He drew his attention back to the meal and finished dressing his plate, taking small, thoughtful bites as he begun eating. He ate less often now, skipping lunch and even breakfast entirely some days. There was something about having a responsibility to please a tyrannical dark lord that made him considerably more preoccupied with other things and ignore his own needs, even eating.
By the time he'd finally looked up from the potion he'd been trying to create, it was already past two o clock--well beyond his chances for lunch. In fact, he was lucky he'd made it to dinner at all. 'Or perhaps not so lucky...' He still had no idea what Lily would decide on the matter of his... romantic gesture. He grumbled quietly to himself as he dug into his green beans and meatloaf. Why did he always put himself into such uncomfortable situations?

"Ah, Zabini, so good to see you." Looking up when she heard that voice, Persephone saw that it was Severus. Her 'friend' and secret crush. His words were curt as always and she brushed it off. "Evening, Severus. I haven't seen you all day." She said, before faking a pout. Just trying to joke around. And trying to keep from getting bored since her best friend Bellatrix was sitting by her sisters and she was sitting with her two younger sisters as well. Both of them were the eldest daughter in their families. So, it was only fair that some nights for dinner, they would sit with them. "You haven't been trying to avoid me, have you?" She joked, with the pout still on her full lips. Taking a sip of Pumpkin juice with a slight grimace, mentally yearning for a Butterbeer, Persephone fought the urge to make a noise of disgust before filling her plate with food. Mashed Potatoes, green beans, a piece of chicken and some carrots. She would have reached for the meatloaf but, she felt like a piece of home. And eyeing her sisters plates, they had the same idea and grabbed a piece of chicken as well. Eating some of her food, she couldn't help but notice the troubled look on Severus' face. And having a soft spot for him, she was concerned. "Sev, what's wrong? You look troubled." Persephone asked, her dark eyes that were usually cruel and cold, were kind and gentle. Only those of her house and family would see this side of her. If you were from another house, not of her family, and or a Mudblood, you would be hexed to Kingdom Come. "Please don't tell me that you're still sulking over what happened with that mug-Evans girl?" She asked, correcting herself when it came to the redheaded Muggle that seems to have stole Snape's heart. Being a Pureblood witch, saying Mudblood was bred into her since the day of her birth. It was second nature. Wearing: ClickyNotes: Yay!!! Persephone gets to be a bitch to Lily!!!!(sorry Lils)

Lily filled her plate hastily as the food appeared, casting nervous glances around the Great Hall. She hadn't seen Sev all day, not since their encounter in the library, and she couldn't deny that she was worried. Was he off doing whatever it was that Death Eaters did? They hadn't even gone to Dumbledore yet, and she was deathly afraid that Sev would not be able to shield his mind well enough when it came to Voldemort. Rumors that he was a excellent Legilimens - almost as good as Dumbledore himself - were circulating, and, despite the confidance she had in Sev, she did not know if he was strong enough to fend off Voldemort's invasion.
Biting her lower lip, she chanced a glance across the Great Hall, only to quickly look away. Severus was there, thankfully, in his usual seat. Unfortunately, he was conversing with the Zabini girl, someone Lily could not help but find less than desirable. The girl was beautiful, yes, but she was also a very vain being. And, judging by the attentive manner at which she had seen her speak to Sev, Zabini was sure to have romantic feelings for the young Slytherin boy. A hideous green monster roared in the Gryffindor's chest as she glanced towards them once more, satisfied only by the sight of Severus alive and in good health. To hell with Zabini, Lily thought to herself, She can kiss my bloody arse and deal with me. I'm not going anywhere.
Glancing at Severus once more, Lily couldn't believe that it had been so short a time since the incident in the library. That kiss...Oh, Merlin, that kiss. It had been amazing - at least as amazing as one's first kiss can go - something she wished hadn't ended so soon. Yet, despite what she wanted, what her hormones were telling her, she didn't know what to do. It had all just happened so fast, too fast for her to be able to comprehend. After so many months of trying to hate him for a simple slip of the tongue, she had finally forgiven him, only to have the line between rekindled friendship and something much more blurred until there was only a shadow of that line left. Lily loved him - she really did - but it was just too soon. All of the conflicting emotions that she had tried for so long to bury were now brought into broad daylight, placed beneath a microscope for inspection, and she was unsure as to what the results of the examination would be.

Harry zipped through the halls, dodging students as he made his way by. He was in great spirits, and with good reason: although he still planned on studying a lot, even if it meant studying ahead in the book or studying other types of magic on the side of his school work, he had just found out from some very reliable sources (Sixth Years from his mother and father's time) that the Fifth Year cirriculum for most classes was the exact same he'd done once before. The only difference was a considerably more practical Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson plan--when Sirius would actually let Remus work, of course. But that meant besides a class Harry already excelled in, he knew all of the work! Homework and class assignments were all be completed in half the time it took him the first go around, and if he really wanted to, he could fudge the dates on some essays from before and hand them in as new.
He turned a corner quickly and nearly collided with a small Slytherin girl: she let out a little squeak, nearly dropping her books, but quickly regaining her composure. No doubt she'd be embarrassed she'd not acted a little more composed to begin with--that's just how Slytherins were. Well, at least Harry had left his heavy school bag back in the Dormitory; it would only be a terrible weight that would fly off his side at every turn, knocking anyone in its path. Sorry, he quickly mumbled, not stopping as soon as he knew she wasn't going to fall. The Entrance Hall came into view as he jogged down another flight of steps and jumped over the last three. When he made it to the Great Hall itself, he found a long stretch of empty bench at the Gryffindor Table and hopped onto it, sliding down a few place settings before he finally stopped, composed and cheerful as if his slide into home wasn't a complete accident.
A couple girls giggled behind their hands, but Harry was already scooting over a little further until he was sitting right next to his mother--it only was a setting away. 'Allo, Lily, he greeted in a Cockney accent as if it were completely natural for him. Fancy seein' you 'ere. 'Eh, you mind passing the rolls? he asked a girl on his other side several seats down, where the only plate of rolls sat for quite a long stretch of the table, I'm bleedin' wastin' away over 'ere, ahs you can see. She laughed, taking one of the rolls and throwing it overhand at him. Harry caught it deftly, looking shocked. 'Ey, watch it! You could kill a man with that right arm of yours. The girl laughed again as if he'd just said the funniest thing in the world. Harry shrugged, turning back to his plate and ripping open the roll, steam rising from it.
Didn't think it was that funny, he whispered to his mother in his normal voice. Anyway, I can't seem not to notice you now that we've talked this morning, you notice that? he asked, spreading butter on his roll before setting that down to pile his plate with roast chicken, carrots, and mashers. Bet it's the red hair. You and the Weasleys are the only ones, and there's only one female Weasley to boot. Anyway. anything new and exciting happen since I saw you, oh, four hours ago? He managed to ask his question before putting any food in his mouth, but once it was asked he shoveled a liberal amount of food into his mouth, ready to make up for forgetting lunch that day.

Severus continued to eat quietly even though he'd heard Zabini's comment. Insulted though she may be (she always seemed so irate when a persons didn't respond to even the most trivial comments), he didn't care. Then again when did he ever? Of course, the girl continued on talking unabashedly, and he looked up from his food for a moment. "Well, I suppose it wouldn't really make a difference if I had been, would it?" he asked her simply, completely unfazed by the pouty lips that he knew had most males wrapped around her finger.
He looked back down at his plate as he brought himself up another morsel of food. He couldn't be interested in other girls if he tried--and he did. After all, when your love interest made no apparent indication of having similar feelings for you and you were much too cowardly to express them to her, you tended to look around at your other options. Severus, unfortunately, found none, much to the disgust and dismay of his fellow Slytherins. It was common knowledge, at least among them, that he focused a lot on that girl, considering she was the only person he every spent time with in Hogwarts. Up until that morning when they'd started talking again and from the time they'd stopped talking before, he had not found a new 'best friend' or even someone to drag around with him for appearance to take her place.
"Troubled? No, not at all," he replied, not wanting to delve into any of his thoughts with her. Forcing himself not to glance towards the Gryffindor Table again, he took a sip of his juice, eyes carefully planted on the rim of his goblet. Severus looked up, eyebrows raised when she asked him if he was sulking over Lily. Sulking? Well, alright, he had to admit that he was rather sulky, or at any rate considerably moodier than usual since their OWL examinations last year. Still, it was no business of hers whether he was or wasn't.
"I might be," he replied vaguely. "Why?"
he asked, looking at her cheekily. "Does my sulking bother you?"
