Shou honestly didn’t usually bother with school dances unless he was roped into going by his friends or actually had a date to take—though more often than not he didn’t bother with asking anyone because he didn’t want to go in the first place. The Yule Ball was no exception. He would have much rather stayed in the Ravenclaw Tower doing…anything, really, as opposed to being at this lame excuse for a dance. He didn’t even like dancing [well, the formal dancing that was usually associated with these types of events]. But…his friends had been able to persuade him to show up anyway, and where were these so called friends? Well, they had run off into the crowd almost as soon as they’d gotten to the dance, leaving Shou to fend for himself.
All around him couples and friends danced together, bodies colliding and twirling and meshing together in perfect rhythm to the music playing around them. Despite the fact that he wasn’t too keen on being here he found himself mesmerized by the décor, taking a step forward to admire it. He must’ve looked a little silly, just standing there all by himself, staring in awe at the ceiling and the walls and the floating arrangements—but he was hardly very wary about how he appeared to other people at the moment. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to stick around a tad longer and enjoy himself, it’s not like any of his friends were up in the Ravenclaw Tower anyway—everyone who had remained on campus for the holidays was here, for the most part so it wasn’t like he’d be able to find company elsewhere anyway.
It was funny. The dances he’d been forced to attend, back before this whole time traveling mess had happened, were nothing like this one. The decorations from his time seemed a little plain and tacky, or maybe that was just his opinion? Or maybe the faculty and party-planning-committee [did they have those?] decided to go all out to impress the kids who were stuck in the past? Well, consider him impressed.
Not wanting to get out on the dance floor quite yet, the seventh year shuffled over to the refreshments table and poured himself a glass of punch, taking a swig and staring out at his peers. He squinted his eyes, attempting to recognize anyone out on the dance floor but it was near impossible to do so, especially with the masks everyone was told they must wear. A sigh passed over his lips and he wandered over to an empty table and took a seat.
