Natsume had made her way from the hufflepuff dorms to the courtyard for some fresh air, and some practice. She hadn't wanted to go to the room of requirement, and there were still people in the dorms, so there was no place really to practice her martial arts privately. She figured most students would be on the grounds as far away from the school as possible, or those couples would go up to the sixth floor for.. well, what ever reason they went there for. They were always so noisy though.
SO she figured the courtyard would be a decent place to practice with no observers. Mainly because it was winter break, so only those handful of students were left while most had gone home. But this year, she had no home to go to that she knew of. It was 1976, she was from 1995, and as far as she knew only her and her sister had been brought back to this time. Sure, her grandparents were around, but what was she to do, so up and say "Hello, I'm your future granddaughter, may I please stay with you?" Chances were she'd then spend the next several days being examined for a mental issue.Could they actually do that in this year? She shrugged it off and sighed as she looked around the courtyard, seeing no one was there.
She didn't like to broadcast that she knew how to fight, and could do it well. She didn't like violence, but she had been taught so she could protect herself and her siblings, just as her sister had and brother was. But she had always tried to simply settle everything with words and anything else but violence. Though, that had not served her well a couple years ago, she still had gone by it, but her grandfather had once told her "Sometimes one must attack in order to defend". She had never really understood it till the other day. She had seen people picking on another student, and being who she was, she tried to help him out, as usual using words and politeness, but then they decided to include her as a target. One of them shoved her and while she had no idea why she did it, she actually shoved him back. At which point the person that shoved her had pulled their wand out and started going after her. She actually had trouble keeping up at one point with the counters, till her sister had shown up and gone after them.
But once they ran off, her sister started yelling at her. Some of the words still rang clearly in her head, namely "If you don't have the ability to defend yourself, how can you defend anyone else?" That with the rest of her yelling, actually helped her finally understand what her grandfather had meant. Had her sister not intervened, the attacks would have kept coming, it hadn't stopped till the other person was attacked. So by her sister attacking, she was actually defending her. It still seemed wrong to her, that to keep ones self and others safe one sometimes had to use violence or fight, but it was actually the truth apparently. She still wanted to avoid violence, but she figured she had to be able to actually fight if she was going to protect herself.
She had wanted to ask her sister, but when she got near, she got a sense she was still angry at her, so she had backed away and come by herself. She had gotten a good handle on her telekinetic abilities, but if things like this were the beginning of a latent telepathy forming... she'd much rather not have that. She tried to push it from her mind and tried to choose a spot that was somewhat obscured. She gathered some of the snow on the ground into 3 balls, using her telekinesis to form them into 3 larger balls to make essentially a snowman. She then charmed it so it wouldn't just fall apart, and slid her wand back into her jacket. Although it was cold with all the snow on the ground and all, she was wearing a rather thin but still warm black jacket, with a yellow vest over it for a bit more warmth. She paused briefly before starting with her practice, and while she had picked a spot that was more obscured in the courtyard, as she punched and kicked, she had forgotten that there was noise still associated with it all. Namely the ones from her mouth. "Loud Hyaa" may give one power.. it also drew attention to ones self. Things like this were the main reason she was a Hufflepuff, not a Ravenclaw.
